Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed that she has two children during an interview with WIRED, responding to recent comments made by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. In an earlier event, Huckabee Sanders suggested that Harris lacks humility because she does not have biological children.
In the interview, Harris stated, “Yes, I have two. Cole and Ella became my cherished children.” She emphasized the importance of building a lasting relationship with her stepchildren, which she approached thoughtfully during her courtship with her husband, Doug Emhoff. Harris became a stepmother to Cole and Ella after marrying Emhoff in 2014, following his divorce from Kerstin Mackin.
Harris also discussed her views on gun ownership, reiterating her stance on the Second Amendment while advocating for reasonable gun safety laws. She expressed support for an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and red flag laws, stating, “We will not take anybody’s guns away.”
When asked about her tendency to laugh, particularly in light of former President Donald Trump's nickname for her, “Laffin’ Kamala,” Harris replied, “I love to laugh,” highlighting the importance of humor in life.
The interview comes amid ongoing discussions about Harris's media accessibility and her campaign’s strategy, which has focused on engaging with local news outlets and social media influencers.
