The Wisconsin Senate race between incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., and Republican challenger Eric Hovde has tightened significantly, according to The Cook Political Report. The race, initially categorized as "lean Democrat," has now shifted to a "toss-up" as Baldwin’s lead narrows.
A report released Tuesday by Cook indicated that Baldwin holds only a slim lead over Hovde, with just a few percentage points separating the candidates. This shift comes as Hovde has consolidated Republican support and attracted more independent voters, according to Cook's Jessica Taylor.
This development follows a September report showing Baldwin losing ground in the state. Wisconsin, a known swing state, has seen close races in recent elections. President Joe Biden won the state in 2020 by just 20,000 votes, and Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., secured his seat by a margin of only one percentage point.
As the election approaches, the race remains highly competitive, with both parties vying for control of the Senate seat.
