A wildfire north of Los Angeles, known as the "Bridge Fire," has rapidly spread, destroying dozens of homes and forcing widespread evacuations. According to California authorities, the fire, which broke out on Sunday in the mountainous areas near Wrightwood and Mount Baldy, had engulfed a ski resort and surrounding neighborhoods. By Tuesday, it had burned 1,600 hectares, and by Wednesday afternoon, the fire had expanded dramatically, covering an area of 49,000 hectares.
At least 33 homes and several vacation properties have been destroyed. Firefighters are battling the blaze, but strong winds and dry conditions, exacerbated by a recent heatwave, have fueled the fire's rapid growth. Authorities have issued extensive evacuation orders to protect residents in the fire’s path.
In addition to the Bridge Fire, the "Airport Fire" in southeastern Los Angeles has continued to spread, burning more than 8,900 hectares and damaging several homes. Seven people have been injured. This fire, which began on Monday, threatened Santiago Peak, where communication towers are located, though the towers remained mostly intact.
The fires have been linked to the extreme heatwave that has gripped Southern California in recent days. Police in San Bernardino County have arrested a suspect on charges of arson in connection with the fires. Although temperatures began to drop on Wednesday, the fires remain uncontained, and firefighters are working tirelessly to control the situation.
