Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić expressed skepticism about Serbia's prospects of joining the European Union by 2028, during a panel discussion at the GLOBSEC conference in Prague. Vučić, known for his pragmatic approach, stated that he does not expect Serbia to become an EU member before 2030, citing ongoing differences between EU interests and those of Serbia.
“I wish all the best to Montenegro, but I don’t believe that they will be part of the EU until 2028. I don’t believe that we will either. We have EU interests that differ from ours from time to time,” Vučić said. He also mentioned that the European Union appears to be experiencing "exhaustion on the subject of enlargement," which could further delay the integration of Western Balkan countries.
Despite these challenges, Vučić emphasized his focus on economic progress, underscoring a realistic, rather than overly optimistic, outlook on the EU accession process.
