Vivek Ramaswamy is an American entrepreneur and author. Born on August 9, 1985, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he is the son of Indian immigrants. His father worked as an engineer, and his mother as a geriatric psychiatrist. Ramaswamy attended St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati and went on to earn his undergraduate degree in biology from Harvard University in 2007. He later obtained a J.D. from Yale Law School in 2013.

Ramaswamy began his career in the financial sector, working at QVT Financial, a hedge fund, where he focused on biotech investments. He later founded Roivant Sciences in 2014, a pharmaceutical company that focused on drug development through subsidiary companies. Roivant gained attention for its innovative approach, acquiring rights to drugs that had been abandoned or deprioritized by other companies. Under Ramaswamy's leadership, Roivant raised significant capital and formed partnerships with various pharmaceutical firms.

In 2021, Ramaswamy stepped down as CEO of Roivant Sciences and shifted his focus to political commentary and writing. He authored the book "Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America's Social Justice Scam," published in 2021, which critiques corporate involvement in social and political issues. Ramaswamy argues that corporations have increasingly adopted progressive social stances not out of genuine concern but as part of a strategic business move to enhance their public image.

Ramaswamy is also known for his commentary on political and cultural issues, particularly his views on capitalism, free speech, and identity politics. He has become a prominent voice in conservative circles and has expressed opposition to what he perceives as the overreach of "woke" culture in American society.

In 2023, Ramaswamy announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 2024 United States presidential election.
