The United States has announced a new round of sanctions targeting a Pakistan-based company and several Chinese entities for supplying equipment related to the development of ballistic missiles in Pakistan. This marks the sixth round of sanctions since November 2021. Under these sanctions, the US can freeze the assets of the named entities, and US citizens or anyone within the US are prohibited from doing business with them.
The sanctions name China-based companies Hubei Huachangda Intelligent Equipment Co, Universal Enterprise, Xi’an Longde Technology Development Co, and Pakistan-based Innovative Equipment. A Chinese national was also sanctioned for transferring equipment restricted under missile technology guidelines to Pakistan's National Development Complex (NDC), which the US states is involved in missile development.
The US State Department emphasized that the sanctions aim to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Pakistan’s foreign ministry has not yet commented on the latest round of sanctions.
In previous sanctions imposed in April 2024, the US blacklisted companies from Belarus and China for supplying missile-related items to Pakistan. At that time, Pakistan’s foreign ministry denied any foreign involvement in its missile program.
Pakistan’s missile development continues, including the medium-range Shaheen-III missile, which is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads.
