US agencies have reported that Iranian hackers sent stolen materials from former President Donald Trump's campaign to individuals involved in President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) issued a joint statement, describing the incident as part of an alleged effort by Iran to influence the US election.
The agencies noted that there is no indication the Biden campaign recipients responded to the emails, which were sent in June and July 2024. The content of the stolen material was not disclosed. Iran’s mission to the United Nations has denied involvement, calling the allegations "unfounded."
Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, called for the Biden and Harris campaigns to clarify whether they used the hacked material. A Harris campaign spokesperson responded by stating they were unaware of any material being sent directly to the campaign and described the emails as phishing attempts.
