Ukraine has called on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to take action after Belarusian Olympic medalists participated in a state ceremony in apparent violation of the IOC’s neutrality rules. The event, held in Minsk on Belarus’ National Unity Day, saw three medalists honored by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. Ukraine’s sports minister, Matviy Bidnyi, criticized the athletes' involvement, stating it undermines the principles of neutrality outlined for the 2024 Paris Games.
The IOC’s neutrality rules prohibit Russian and Belarusian athletes from displaying their national flags, anthems, or symbols during the Games or at related events. Ukraine insists that further sanctions be imposed on Russian and Belarusian athletes, arguing that these athletes are used to support state agendas.
Belarusian athletes performed well at the Paris Games, with Ivan Litvinovich winning gold in trampoline, while Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya and Yauheni Zalaty took silver in their respective events. Lukashenko praised their achievements, despite ongoing concerns over violations of IOC regulations.
The IOC has yet to comment on the situation, as Ukraine continues to push for stronger enforcement of the neutrality rules.
