In a significant escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has revealed that Iran has supplied Russia with short-range ballistic missiles. Speaking during a visit to the UK, Blinken stated that Russia has received shipments of Fath-360 missiles, following the training of Russian personnel in Iran on how to operate them. These missiles, with a range of up to 75 miles, are expected to be used by Russia in Ukraine within weeks.
Blinken emphasized that this development poses a "threat to all of Europe" and highlighted Iran’s growing destabilizing influence beyond the Middle East. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy called the missile supply a “significant escalation,” though he declined to comment on specific military operations, such as Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles against Russian targets.
The Fath-360 missiles, also known as BM-120, are capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 4 and connect to satellite systems for precision targeting. The United States is expected to announce further sanctions on Iran in response to this development, while Ukraine continues to push for permission to use Western weapons on Russian soil.
