Two European companies, BAC Consulting from Hungary and Norta Global from Bulgaria, have been identified in connection with pagers that exploded in Lebanon, resulting in 12 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries. Taiwanese company Gold Apollo, whose label appeared on the devices, denied involvement in their production, attributing the manufacturing to BAC Consulting.
Gold Apollo clarified that BAC Consulting was authorized to use its brand in certain regions. Hungarian media outlet Telex reported that the pagers were supplied by Norta Global, while BAC Consulting has been scrutinized for its role as a trading intermediary. Hungarian government officials stated that BAC Consulting does not have manufacturing operations in Hungary.
Investigations continue, with Bulgarian authorities looking into Norta Global’s potential involvement, though no customs activity related to the pagers has been recorded in the country. DW’s visit to BAC Consulting’s Budapest office found no personnel present.
