Former President Donald Trump stated on Monday that Democrats could potentially misuse overseas ballots in the upcoming presidential election. Trump made these comments on his social media platform, Truth Social, raising concerns about the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), which permits eligible Americans to vote absentee from abroad.
Trump suggested that Democrats are preparing to collect millions of votes from Americans living overseas through UOCAVA, and he questioned the adequacy of identity and citizenship verification in the process. He expressed concerns that the program could allow for improper voting and called on Republicans to take action, warning that illegal votes could affect military personnel and their families.
The remarks follow the failure of the House to pass a continuing budget resolution that included the SAVE Act. This measure would have required proof of citizenship to vote in elections.
The issue of non-citizen voting has gained increasing attention from Republicans as the next presidential election approaches.
