At a campaign rally in Arizona, former President Donald Trump revealed a new tax policy proposal aimed at eliminating taxes on overtime pay. Speaking at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall in Tucson on September 12, Trump presented this plan as part of his broader economic agenda if elected in the upcoming 2024 election.
Trump emphasized that this policy would provide much-needed relief for hardworking Americans. “As part of our additional tax cuts, we will end all taxes on overtime,” he said. “The people who work overtime are among the hardest working citizens in our country, and it’s time they finally caught a break.” He specifically mentioned professions like police officers, nurses, and truck drivers as those who would benefit.
The proposal follows his earlier promise to end taxes on tips, a policy introduced in Las Vegas in June. Trump argued that removing taxes on overtime would motivate workers and assist businesses struggling to fill positions.
However, Joseph Costello, a spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, dismissed the plan as deceptive, accusing Trump of exploiting workers during his presidency. Harris, who has mirrored some of Trump’s policies, including ending taxes on tips, is seen as a key rival in the tight race for Arizona’s electoral votes. Current polls show Trump with a slight lead over Harris in the state.
