Former President Donald Trump is actively seeking the support of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as Mormons, in Arizona and Nevada as part of his campaign efforts. Historically a reliable Republican voting bloc, Mormons have shown some shifts toward the Democratic Party in recent elections, influenced by targeted outreach efforts. Notably, Vice President Kamala Harris recently launched the “Latter-day Saints for Harris-Walz” initiative to engage Mormon voters in these states.
In response, Trump hosted several prominent Mormon influencers and political figures at his Mar-a-Lago residence. According to a source familiar with the discussions, the gathering aimed to strategize on how to unite and energize the LDS voter base.
The Trump campaign is considering organizing a smaller rally in Arizona focused on attracting Mormon voters, potentially featuring influential figures from the community. While Trump has garnered the support of most Mormon congressmen, he faces opposition from Senator Mitt Romney. In contrast, Trump has gained the backing of previously critical figures like Senator Mike Lee and Governor Spencer Cox.
With approximately 440,000 Mormons in Arizona and 180,000 in Nevada, Trump is focusing on these key demographics as he competes closely with Harris in both states. Although Mormons generally align with the Republican Party, a recent survey indicates that they hold more diverse political views compared to other conservative groups.
