Former President Donald Trump returned to Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, 84 days after surviving an assassination attempt during a rally. Trump used the event to criticize the Biden-Harris administration’s response to Hurricane Helene, calling it one of the worst since Hurricane Katrina.
During his speech, Trump addressed the crowd, stating, "This has been the worst hurricane response by a president and vice president since Katrina." He expressed frustration over the federal aid offered to victims, mentioning that people whose homes were destroyed were given $750 while the government sends large amounts of money to other countries. Trump specifically called out Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of attending social events while hurricane victims were left without adequate rescue efforts in North Carolina.
In his return to the site of the assassination attempt, Trump began by referencing his previous rally with the line, "As I was saying," as the crowd responded enthusiastically. He showed a graph displaying illegal border crossings on his last day in office, the same graph he had been viewing when a bullet grazed his ear, fired by 20-year-old Thomas Crooks.
Trump concluded by urging the crowd to vote in the upcoming election, stating, "Twelve weeks ago, we all took a bullet for America. We’ve got to win. We can’t let this happen to our country."
