During a rally in Mint Hill, North Carolina, former President Donald Trump expressed his views on national security, stating that if reelected, he would respond forcefully to any foreign threats against a U.S. presidential candidate. Specifically addressing Iran, Trump warned that if Iran harmed a candidate, he would retaliate by "blowing [their] largest cities to smithereens."
The statement followed a briefing Trump received from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding alleged threats from Iran to destabilize the U.S. by targeting him. Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, emphasized that the former president had already faced two assassination attempts this year.
Trump also criticized the presence of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in the U.S. during the United Nations General Assembly, pointing out what he called a "strange set of circumstances," given the threats he faced.
In his speech, Trump also highlighted his economic proposals, specifically plans to revive American manufacturing by implementing tariffs on foreign nations. He promised a 15% Made in America tax rate if reelected, referencing past policies such as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.
The rally took place hours before Vice President Kamala Harris was set to speak on manufacturing in Pennsylvania, underscoring the ongoing political competition between the two.
