Former President Donald Trump met with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky at Trump Tower in New York City, pledging that if he wins the 2024 election, there will be a "fair" and "rapid" resolution to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, acknowledged the hardships Zelensky and his country have faced during the conflict, stating, "He's gone through hell."
During their discussion, Zelensky expressed that the war should never have started and stressed the need to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to end it. Trump echoed these sentiments, saying, "It has to end," while maintaining that both sides will seek a fair deal.
Although Trump noted it was "too early" to specify the terms of a potential agreement, he predicted the war would conclude swiftly if he were re-elected. Zelensky extended an invitation for Trump to visit Ukraine to witness the war-torn cities firsthand, to which Trump responded affirmatively, calling Ukraine a "beautiful country."
Trump also highlighted the challenge of rebuilding Ukraine's cities to their former state, describing the process as a "complicated puzzle," but expressed optimism about finding a solution.
