At a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump intensified his personal attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, claiming she is “mentally impaired” and calling for her to be “impeached and prosecuted.” Trump also accused Harris of being responsible for an "invasion" at the U.S.-Mexico border.
This rally followed a previous event in which Trump described his speech as “dark,” with similar themes presented in Erie. Trump has frequently used personal attacks against Harris, labeling her with various insults. He added during the rally that President Joe Biden was also “mentally impaired” and expressed his belief that Harris “was born that way.”
Trump’s rhetoric has become more aggressive, despite suggestions from some Republicans to focus on key issues like the economy and immigration. Senator Lindsey Graham stated in a CNN interview that it would be more beneficial to address Harris’s policies rather than resorting to personal attacks, which he described as "crazy liberal."
Trump’s legal challenges remain ongoing, including his conviction in May for falsifying business records, with sentencing scheduled for November. He also faces two other cases related to the January 6th insurrection and efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.
Harris has not responded directly to Trump’s recent comments but previously described similar attacks as part of a “tired playbook” with no focus on addressing the needs of people.
