Recent assassination attempts targeting former President Donald Trump have revealed security challenges within federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Secret Service. Congressman Eli Crane (R-Ariz.), a former Navy SEAL, identified several tactical errors made by Ryan Routh, the alleged would-be assassin, during the latest attempt at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Crane noted that these mistakes, such as failing to cut through a chain-link fence and using visible ceramic plates, are not typical of professional training.
Routh had appeared on federal law enforcement radar several times since 2019, including being flagged during a return trip from Ukraine in 2023, but was not investigated further. Despite earlier warnings, such as a tip to the FBI regarding his possession of illegal firearms, no significant action was taken prior to the assassination attempt.
This marks the second assassination attempt against Trump, the first occurring during a rally in Pennsylvania in July. These incidents have raised concerns among security experts about law enforcement's capacity to prevent future threats, highlighting potential vulnerabilities in proactive threat detection and response measures.
