Former President Donald Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp will make their first joint public appearance on Friday since the 2020 election. This marks the end of a lengthy feud between the two, which began when Trump criticized Kemp for not supporting efforts to challenge Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results. Trump lost the state to now-President Joe Biden, sparking tensions between the two Republican figures.
Despite their differences, Trump and Kemp have agreed to set aside their past disagreements in an effort to help the GOP reclaim Georgia in the upcoming November 5 election. The two leaders will meet in Evans, Georgia, an unincorporated community in Columbia County, where they will receive a briefing on the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
Local officials from Columbia County extended the invitation for Trump and Kemp to attend the briefing and speak to the press, where they are expected to discuss the hurricane recovery efforts.
This appearance symbolizes a public effort to unify the party ahead of the election, as both leaders shift focus from their past conflict to addressing pressing issues facing the state.
