A recent study by the Media Research Center/NewsBusters revealed that PolitiFact fact-checked Republicans more often than Democrats during the current election cycle. The analysis of PolitiFact articles from April to September showed that Republican figures were fact-checked 107 times, compared to 75 instances for Democrats.
The study further examined the outcomes of these fact checks. Republicans were rated as true or mostly true 10.3% of the time, half true 7.5% of the time, and mostly false, false, or "pants on fire" 82.2% of the time. In contrast, Democrats were rated true or mostly true 36% of the time, half true 22.7%, and mostly false, false, or "pants on fire" in 41.3% of cases.
This data highlights a disparity in the number of fact-checks conducted between the two parties, though the reasons behind this difference were not explored in the study.
