Springfield, Ohio, Mayor Rob Rue raised concerns on Tuesday about the potential visit of former President Donald Trump, citing the strain it could place on local resources. The city has been managing multiple bomb threats over the past week, resulting in evacuations at City Hall and local schools.
At a news conference, Rue explained that while a visit from a former president is usually welcomed, the current situation poses challenges. "It would be an extreme strain on our resources," Rue said. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine agreed, stating that while Trump’s visit is typically appreciated, the city's resources are already stretched due to recent events.
Trump had mentioned the possibility of visiting Springfield after reports surfaced about Haitian migrants allegedly stealing and eating pets. Local officials denied the allegations, stating there were no credible reports to support them.
Trump has not confirmed plans for a visit but has promised to deport thousands of migrants from Ohio if he returns to the White House.
