SpaceX is gearing up for an exciting launch of its Polaris Dawn mission, part of the Polaris Program, which aims to expand the horizons of private space travel. The mission is expected to lift off aboard the Falcon 9 rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with the primary goal of sending a civilian crew on a multi-day journey orbiting Earth. The mission will also conduct the first-ever commercial spacewalk, a significant milestone for private space ventures.
The crew aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft, named Resilience, consists of Jared Isaacman, the mission commander and entrepreneur; Scott Poteet, a former U.S. Air Force pilot; and SpaceX engineers Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon, marking the first time SpaceX employees will travel into space. During the mission, the crew will conduct experiments, including testing Starlink communication technology and studying human health in space.
The mission is expected to last about five days, with the crew flying higher than any humans have since the Apollo program. A successful launch will bring SpaceX closer to its goal of advancing commercial space exploration, creating pathways for future missions.
