Ryan Routh, accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges related to the September incident. Routh, who was already facing federal charges for possession of a firearm as a felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, was formally charged with the attempted assassination last week.
The arraignment, which took place on Monday, lasted less than five minutes, according to reports from ABC News. The incident occurred when Secret Service agents noticed the barrel of an AK-47 rifle protruding from bushes near Trump’s Palm Beach golf course, where the former president was playing approximately 400-500 yards away.
Following the discovery, Routh fled the scene but was later apprehended by local authorities. Investigations revealed that months before the incident, Routh had written a note expressing his intent to kill Trump.
Routh now faces serious charges as the case progresses in federal court.
