Russian airstrikes hit residential buildings in Kharkiv on Saturday night, wounding 21 people, including an 8-year-old child. The attack targeted the Shevchenkivsky district, damaging 18 buildings and forcing the evacuation of 60 residents. This follows a similar strike the previous night, which injured 15 people, including children, across three neighborhoods.
Ukrainian officials confirmed that both attacks involved KAB-type aerial glide bombs, a Soviet-era weapon. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes and called for more long-range weaponry from Western allies. He is set to discuss further support during his visit to the United States.
Beyond Kharkiv, Russian forces launched 80 Shahed drones and two missiles overnight, with Ukrainian defenses intercepting 71. In Nikopol, a drone strike killed a woman and a 12-year-old girl. Further Russian attacks in Donetsk and Kherson caused additional civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.
Ukrainian forces responded by striking Russian targets, with shelling in the Belgorod region injuring 10 people. Ukrainian troops continue efforts to establish a buffer zone to prevent Russian cross-border strikes.
