A tragic incident occurred off the west coast of Norway when a replica Viking ship capsized, resulting in the death of a woman. Norwegian police reported that the woman was found dead near the sunken vessel, but her identity and nationality were not initially disclosed.
According to Norwegian media, the victim was a U.S. citizen in her 20s. Rescue services, via the platform X, confirmed that five other individuals were rescued and are safe and unharmed.
The incident unfolded after a distress call was made from the 10-meter-long ship in the evening. However, when rescue teams, including boats and a helicopter, arrived, they were informed it was a false alarm. An hour later, the ship sent out another distress signal, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.
The vessel, which lacked a motor and was powered solely by sails and oars, had set out from the Faroe Islands and was heading to the Norwegian city of Alesund. The passengers, from the Faroe Islands, Switzerland, and the U.S., were attempting to recreate a Viking sea voyage from over a thousand years ago.
