Real Madrid has qualified automatically for the final of the inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup, scheduled for December 18 in Doha, Qatar. The tournament, announced in December, is set to replace the annual Club World Cup, which will now take place every four years starting in 2025.
The final coincides with Qatar’s National Day and marks the two-year anniversary of the 2022 World Cup final. The Intercontinental Cup will feature club teams from across the globe and consist of five matches leading up to the final.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister for Youth and Sports, stated that hosting another significant football tournament underscores Qatar’s capability to deliver world-class sporting events.
Prior to the final, the Asian Champions League winners, Al Ain, will host Auckland City, the Oceanic Champions League winners, in a playoff match on September 22. The winner will then face African Champions League champions Al Ahly in Cairo on October 29.
On December 11, the South American Libertadores winners will compete against Mexican side Pachuca in Doha, setting the stage for the Challenger Cup, where the winners will earn a spot in the final against Real Madrid.
