Palestinian-American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has criticized a cartoon published in the National Review that depicts her with a detonating pager. Tlaib called the image racist and warned it could incite further hate and violence against Arab and Muslim communities.
The cartoon, created by Henry Payne, shows a woman labeled as "Rep. Tlaib" sitting at a desk as a pager explodes. The illustration references recent attacks in Lebanon, where thousands of communication devices exploded, killing at least 37 people and injuring nearly 3,000.
Tlaib shared her concerns on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Our community is already in so much pain...this racism will incite more hate." She also criticized the media for normalizing such portrayals.
Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan, has faced criticism for her outspoken stance on Israel’s actions in Gaza. In November, she was formally censured by the House of Representatives for allegedly promoting false narratives about the Gaza conflict, a charge she denies.
Despite this, she continues to speak out for Palestinians, voicing frustration over her colleagues' silence regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
