Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a strong warning, stating that if the West approves the supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory, it would mean NATO is directly at war with Russia. In a televised statement, Putin explained that such a decision would drastically change the nature of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"This would mean that NATO countries are at war with Russia," Putin declared. He emphasized that if Ukraine were to conduct these strikes, it would only be possible with external assistance. “These operations require intelligence from satellites belonging to the European Union or the United States, in other words, NATO satellites,” Putin added.
The statement comes as Western nations continue discussing the possibility of providing Ukraine with advanced weaponry, including long-range missiles. Although NATO members like the U.S. and the U.K. have been delivering military aid, they have so far avoided providing weapons that could be used for deep strikes into Russian territory.
Putin’s remarks are likely intended to deter further Western involvement in Ukraine, where the conflict has dragged on, with Ukrainian forces working to regain areas occupied by Russia. NATO has consistently maintained that its support for Ukraine is defensive, stressing that it is not directly involved in the war. However, Putin's latest warning highlights the potential for an escalation if the West crosses this perceived red line.
