Former President Barack Obama is returning to the campaign trail to support Vice President Kamala Harris, hosting a high-profile fundraiser in Los Angeles aimed at raising funds for her campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and state Democratic parties. This marks Obama’s first campaign event for Harris. The fundraiser coincides with another event for Harris hosted by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Tickets for Obama’s event range from $50,000 to $250,000, co-hosted by former Ambassador to Spain James Costos and designer Michael Smith. This strategy reflects a shift in the Harris campaign, which aims to leverage Obama’s popularity while allowing Harris to establish her identity separate from him.
Harris has also engaged in fundraising efforts, reportedly raising $361 million in August, significantly outpacing Trump’s $130 million. As part of her campaign strategy, Harris will host her own fundraiser in Los Angeles on September 29, with ticket prices ranging from $500 to $1 million.
Democratic strategist Mike Nellis highlighted Harris’s improved favorability ratings, suggesting she is resonating well with voters. Meanwhile, Republican strategist John Feehery expressed skepticism about the sustainability of Harris's momentum as the election approaches.
Obama’s outreach includes efforts to mobilize digital creators and activists for National Voter Registration Day, emphasizing the importance of voter engagement.
