In a challenging second-round match at the US Open, Novak Djokovic advanced after fellow Serbian Laslo Djere retired early in the third set. Djokovic, ranked No. 2, secured the first two sets 6-4, 6-4, but struggled with the intense heat and humidity in New York, making numerous errors and displaying visible frustration.

Djere, ranked 109th, pushed Djokovic hard, even leading in the second set after breaking Djokovic’s serve. However, Djere was forced to retire due to a painful left-side injury and mental exhaustion, with the score at 2-0 in the third set.
