Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for governor of North Carolina, has rejected calls to step down following a report that he made racially and sexually charged comments on a pornography website message board over a decade ago. Robinson, currently serving as the state’s lieutenant governor, faces allegations of referring to himself as a "Black Nazi" and making critical remarks about civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
Robinson denied the accusations, calling them "salacious tabloid lies" and affirming his commitment to staying in the race. The CNN report detailing these comments has surfaced as Robinson trails in recent polls to his Democratic opponent, current attorney general Josh Stein.
CNN also reported that Robinson made controversial statements about peeping at women in gym showers as a teenager and expressed appreciation for transgender pornography. Additionally, he allegedly made a 2012 comment stating his preference for Adolf Hitler over current U.S. leadership at the time.
As the gubernatorial race unfolds, the Harris campaign, representing current Vice President Kamala Harris, quickly highlighted Robinson's connection to Donald Trump, sharing videos of Trump praising Robinson. Trump has not publicly commented on the allegations but emphasized the importance of North Carolina in the upcoming presidential election.
