Incumbent Republican Senator Deb Fischer is facing an unexpectedly close race in Nebraska against independent candidate Dan Osborn. Polls show Osborn, a union leader and Navy veteran, gaining traction ahead of the upcoming election.
Recent polls have indicated a tight competition, with a Survey USA poll showing Osborn leading Fischer by one percentage point at 45% to Fischer’s 44%. Another poll by Independent Center shows Osborn ahead by 47%, while Fischer trails at 42%. Notably, there is no Democratic candidate in this race.
Osborn’s campaign has received significant financial support from out-of-state contributors, which has helped boost his visibility. Political analysts, including Randall Adkins, a political science professor at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, have noted that the race is much closer than initially expected for a traditionally Republican state.
As the election approaches, both candidates are working to secure their positions in what is shaping up to be a closely contested battle for the Senate seat.
