Leaked conversations have revealed that Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has been using an unofficial investigative unit within the judiciary, exposing his direct manipulation of investigations. Reports from Folha de S.Paulo show Moraes acting as accuser, victim, and judge, handpicking his targets for persecution.
The messages reveal that Moraes instructed his advisor, Airton Vieira, to have reports crafted by Eduardo Tagliaferro, then head of the Special Advisory on Combating Disinformation. Despite their suspicions, Moraes's targets were shocked to learn the justice personally ordered these reports.
One of Moraes’s victims, former representative Homero Marchese, censored for criticizing Brazil’s voting system, expressed disbelief that the minister would demand reports with anonymous sources. Marchese had his social media blocked and later saw his compensation overturned by Moraes.
Journalist Rodrigo Constantino, also targeted, was stunned by the mafia-like tone of the conversations, where Moraes’s aides discussed “going all out” on accusations. Similarly, Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, expressed outrage at being specifically targeted for questioning election integrity.
