Minnesota Republican state Representative Peggy Bennett was listed as a Democrat on ballots in a recent error attributed to a processing issue by the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office. The mistake was discovered as early voting began in the state on Friday.
In a press statement, Bennett explained that the error involves her party affiliation on ballots in Faribault County’s House District 23A. She clarified that she remains a member of the Republican Party and has not changed political affiliations. Bennett also noted that this issue comes after another incident involving the state’s new automatic voter registration system, which incorrectly added over 1,000 non-citizens to the voter rolls.
Bennett stated that she was informed that officials from the Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon's office are working to correct the mistake. She emphasized that the error was not the responsibility of the Faribault County Auditor's Office, which has been actively addressing the issue.
The error highlights the importance of accuracy in ballot processing and the need for thorough checks before printing. Efforts are underway to ensure that corrected ballots are made available as early voting continues in Minnesota.
