Several senior officials from the campaign of North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the Republican nominee for governor, have resigned after a CNN report surfaced regarding alleged controversial online comments attributed to Robinson from over 10 years ago. Robinson has denied making these comments, which included a claim that he referred to himself as a "black Nazi."
Among the departing staff members are campaign adviser Conrad Pogorzelski, campaign manager Chris Rodriguez, finance director Heather Whillier, and deputy campaign manager Jason Rizk. Robinson confirmed their resignations on Sunday, stating that he appreciated their work on the campaign and wished them well. He also mentioned that new staff members would be announced soon.
Robinson is running against North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, the Democratic candidate, in the 2024 gubernatorial election. North Carolina is viewed as a key battleground state, and the outcome of the governor’s race is seen as significant within the broader context of U.S. electoral politics.
Robinson has rejected the allegations related to the CNN report. The campaign is expected to continue with new personnel as the gubernatorial race progresses.
