Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the Republican nominee for North Carolina governor, has denied allegations reported by CNN that he made racist, antisemitic, and homophobic comments on a message board. The posts, made between 2008 and 2012, included derogatory remarks about Martin Luther King Jr. and comments supporting slavery. CNN connected the posts to Robinson through biographical details and a shared email address.
Robinson dismissed the report as “salacious tabloid trash” and vowed to continue his campaign. He also claimed the allegations were politically motivated, blaming his Democratic opponent, state Attorney General Josh Stein, for leaking the story.
Despite calls for clarification from some Republican leaders, Robinson stated in a video that the comments do not reflect his character and that he remains committed to his gubernatorial run.
Robinson has previously faced criticism for other controversial statements, including his stance on abortion, which he has since modified to support a 12-week ban.
