Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, participated in a live interview on Tuesday, where she outlined her plan to provide $25,000 in downpayment assistance to first-time homebuyers. Harris shared her personal experience, recalling how her mother saved to buy her first home when Harris was a teenager.
On the topic of gun control, Harris clarified that the administration is not looking to confiscate firearms from lawful owners but stressed the importance of an assault weapons ban. “We’re not trying to take anybody’s guns away from them, but we do need an assault weapons ban,” she stated.
During the interview, which was hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists in Philadelphia, Harris also addressed inflation, acknowledging that the cost of groceries remains high. She emphasized the need for continued efforts to improve the economy, while highlighting her leadership as part of a "new generation" for the country.
Additionally, Harris mentioned that she had spoken with former President Donald Trump following a second reported assassination attempt against him.
