Vice President Kamala Harris addressed questions about the immigration crisis during an interview on 60 Minutes, emphasizing that Congress must take action to resolve the ongoing border issues. When pressed by reporter Bill Whitaker on the sharp rise in undocumented immigrants entering the U.S. under the Biden-Harris administration, Harris highlighted the administration’s efforts, including its initial immigration reform bill introduced to Congress.
Harris pointed to the failure of a more recent border security bill, which she claimed was blocked by former President Donald Trump. She described the immigration crisis as a long-standing issue, stating, “Solutions are at hand, and from day one, we have been offering solutions.”
Whitaker questioned whether lifting certain Trump-era policies contributed to the surge in illegal immigration. Harris responded by asserting that the administration has made progress, citing a reduction in illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking in 2024.
Harris reiterated that true resolution requires Congressional action, stating, “We need Congress to act, to actually fix the problem.” The exchange took place less than a month before the upcoming U.S. election, with voters citing immigration as a key issue in their decision-making.
