The chief of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Herzi Halevi, stated on Sunday that the military will "hit" anyone posing a threat to Israeli citizens. In a video statement, Halevi emphasized that the ongoing operation targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon serves as a message to Israel's adversaries both regionally and globally.
"This operation against Hezbollah's chain of command is a clear message to Hezbollah, but it is also a message to the Middle East and beyond: We will hit anyone who threatens the citizens of the state of Israel," he asserted. Halevi reported that hundreds of targets had been struck in Lebanon recently, accusing Hezbollah of positioning rocket launchers near civilian areas, thus endangering them.
In response, Hezbollah vowed to persist in its conflict with Israel and to support its ally, Hamas, in Gaza. Hezbollah's deputy leader, Naim Kassem, declared during the funeral of a key commander that the group would continue to confront Israel, stating, "We follow the front of support and confrontation... we will kill them and fight from where they expect and from where they do not expect."
