An Israeli airstrike targeted a school sheltering displaced people in Gaza City, killing at least 22 Palestinians, Gaza's Ministry of Health reported. The attack hit the Zeitoun School in the eastern part of the city on Saturday. Among the dead were 13 children, six women, and a three-month-old baby.
The Palestinian Civil Defence confirmed the incident, adding that 30 others were injured, some suffering severe burns. Two people remain missing. Thousands of displaced civilians had sought refuge in the school.
The Israeli military stated that the airstrike was aimed at Hamas militants operating inside a command and control center located adjacent to the school. The school had become one of the many civilian facilities affected during the ongoing conflict.
This attack is part of a broader pattern of Israeli airstrikes on schools sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza, including several United Nations-run facilities. Since the conflict began, more than 41,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed.
