Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused Israel of attempting to provoke a broader regional conflict by encouraging Iran to join its allies, Hezbollah and Hamas. In his remarks made during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran seeks to avoid instability in the Middle East, warning that the consequences of such a conflict would be irreversible.
He stated, "It is Israel that seeks to create this wider conflict. They are dragging us to a point where we do not wish to go." Pezeshkian also referenced the ongoing US appeals for Iran not to retaliate, suggesting that such restraint was intended to support peace efforts in the region.
Despite these appeals, Pezeshkian expressed frustration, claiming that "every day, Israel is committing more atrocities" and citing the impact on civilians, including children, and the targeting of hospitals and other facilities.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions between Israel and several groups in the region, with international calls for de-escalation.
