The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) has officially ended its strike after reaching a tentative wage agreement with the United States Maritime Alliance. The strike, which began on Tuesday, involved approximately 50,000 union members and resulted in a complete halt of shipments at ports on the East Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico.
Union members are set to return to work on Friday following the agreement, which extends the previous contract that expired on Monday night through January 15, 2025. This extension serves as a temporary measure while both parties continue to negotiate a full agreement. The terms of the tentative agreement require ratification by union members before it is finalized.
In a statement, the ILA confirmed the agreement with the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd., which oversees shipping lines, terminal operators, and port authorities. The union emphasized that all current job actions would cease immediately, allowing all work covered by the Master Contract to resume.
The resolution of this strike is expected to alleviate supply chain disruptions experienced during the work stoppage, ensuring that shipping operations can proceed without further delay.
