India defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test match in Chennai, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Ravichandran Ashwin played a pivotal role in the victory, claiming six wickets in the second innings and ten in total, following his century in the first innings.

Bangladesh, set a daunting target of 515 runs, were bowled out for 234 on the fourth day. Despite a strong effort from skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who top-scored with 82 runs, the team struggled to fend off India's bowling attack. Ashwin's dominant performance on his home ground at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Tamil Nadu proved too much for the visiting side.

Ashwin, who scored 113 runs off 133 balls in India’s first innings, was named player of the match for his all-round performance. His contributions with both bat and ball helped India secure a commanding victory, with one match remaining in the series.
