The House Oversight Committee is investigating the use of U.S. taxpayer resources in connection with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Pennsylvania. Zelensky traveled aboard a U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft to visit a munitions plant and meet local officials. The investigation aims to determine if the Biden Administration's actions during the trip were appropriate, as it took place during the 2024 election cycle.
The committee, led by Chairman James Comer, has sent letters to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and the White House Counsel’s Office. The letters seek to clarify the planning and justification for transporting Zelensky on a military aircraft and whether the trip had any political motivations related to the ongoing election.
The investigation follows public comments made by Zelensky regarding GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance. Zelensky addressed the war in Ukraine, which has continued since Russia's invasion over two years ago, and responded to the candidates’ positions on the conflict. The committee is examining if these comments were related to his U.S.-funded visit.
