Ali Bastian, best known for her role as Becca Dean on Hollyoaks, has revealed her diagnosis of stage 2 breast cancer. The actress, who played the beloved character from 2001 to 2007, discovered a lump while breastfeeding her youngest daughter, Izzy.
In an interview with OK! magazine, Bastian, 42, described the diagnosis as a "total shock." She initially believed she had mastitis, a common issue for breastfeeding mothers, but when the condition didn’t improve, she sought further medical advice, leading to the cancer diagnosis in June.
Currently undergoing chemotherapy, Bastian is preparing for a mastectomy and radiotherapy. She has been open about the emotional challenges of her journey, admitting that some mornings she forgets about her diagnosis until the reality hits her again.
Bastian lives in West Cork, Ireland, with her husband, David O'Mahony, and their two daughters, Isla, 4, and Izzy, 19 months. She has found support from her former Hollyoaks co-stars and is focusing on trusting her medical team.
Despite the tough journey ahead, Bastian remains hopeful, sharing that she must "remind [herself] daily to trust in the plan and trust it will all be OK." Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, and Bastian’s form is hormone-driven, a condition that runs in her family.
