Vice President Kamala Harris, along with the Democratic National Committee (DNC), significantly outperformed former President Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee (RNC) in fundraising for August. The Democrats raised $257 million, compared to the $85 million garnered by the Republicans, as disclosed in Federal Election Commission records.
This substantial fundraising month underscores Harris's influence since she became the Democratic presidential nominee. Following her debate with Trump on September 10, Harris raised $47 million within 24 hours. As of September, the Harris campaign and the DNC held $286 million in cash, while the Trump campaign and the RNC had $214 million available.
In terms of expenditures, the Democrats spent $258 million in August, while the RNC and Trump campaign expended $121 million. The disparity in fundraising and spending indicates that Republicans may face challenges in catching up before the November 5 general election. RNC Chairman Michael Whatley acknowledged the financial disparity but expressed confidence in the party's resources for reaching voters.
One notable recent donor to the Trump campaign is hedge fund manager Paul Singer, who contributed $5 million to Make America Great Again Inc., indicating some support from former Nikki Haley supporters.
