Vice President Kamala Harris has significantly increased her media appearances as the U.S. presidential race nears its final stages. On Tuesday, she participated in interviews with popular shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The View, and an extended interview with radio host Howard Stern. This media push comes as recent polls show Harris in a tight race with Republican nominee Donald Trump ahead of the November 5 election.
Harris's media strategy initially faced criticism due to a slow start after she announced her candidacy on July 21, with her first major interview airing over a month later. However, in recent weeks, Harris has embarked on a media blitz, appearing on various platforms to connect with voters. According to a September poll by Siena College and The New York Times, 28% of likely voters expressed a desire to learn more about her.
Harris spoke on 60 Minutes about economic issues, claiming that many Republicans privately agree with her stance. The interview was part of a planned election-season special where both candidates were invited. Trump, however, withdrew shortly before the recording.
Harris’s media appearances come as polls suggest the race is extremely close, with FiveThirtyEight tracking Harris at 48.6% and Trump at 45.9%, within the margin of error. Her campaign has responded by shifting focus from rallies in battleground states to maintaining media presence and connecting with voters across the country.
