Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice-presidential hopeful Tim Walz met with the families of Americans being held hostage by Hamas on Thursday. The meeting reaffirmed his and Vice President Kamala Harris' commitment to securing the release of the hostages.
The meeting followed a session between the families of the seven American hostages held in Gaza and White House officials in Washington, D.C., who provided updates on the ongoing hostage negotiations. Walz expressed his dedication to raising awareness about their plight and discussed ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire and a potential hostage exchange.
A campaign official stated that Walz listened to the families' stories and reiterated Harris' determination to explore all avenues for the hostages' safe return. The families, however, voiced frustration with the pace of negotiations and urged that more needs to be done to reach an agreement that guarantees their loved ones' safety.
The meeting occurred as leaders of the Uncommitted National Movement, who have led protests over the Gaza conflict, declined to endorse a candidate for the 2024 presidential election, advising against supporting former President Donald Trump or third-party candidates.
