The Georgia State Election Board has voted to subpoena election records from Fulton County relating to the 2020 election, as part of an ongoing legal dispute over election monitors for the upcoming 2024 election cycle. The board voted 3-2 in favor of the subpoena on Tuesday, citing concerns about Fulton County's cooperation.
Fulton County has been in a legal battle with the state board over who has the authority to select and fund election monitors. In May, the board decided that an agreement with the county on election monitors needed to be reached by August. However, Fulton County hired its own monitors without the board's approval, rejecting the state's proposed team.
Board member Janice Johnston proposed the subpoena, arguing that the county had not fully cooperated. The subpoena demands records including consolidated return sheets, absentee ballot recap sheets, log files, and chain of custody forms.
The dispute continues as Fulton County is required to produce the requested documents and appear at the board’s next meeting.
