Gaza's Ministry of Health has refused to accept 88 Palestinian bodies sent from Israel, citing a lack of information regarding their identities. The ministry announced on Wednesday that it will not proceed with the transfer until Israel provides full details, including the names of the deceased, their time of death, and where they were taken from.
The bodies, sent in a container, were mostly decomposed, making identification difficult. Gaza's Government Media Office called the shipment “inhumane” and “criminal.” According to Al Jazeera's Tareq Abu Azzoum, signs indicate the bodies had been held in Israel for an extended period.
In the past 24 hours, Israeli airstrikes have claimed the lives of at least 53 Palestinians, including several families, as violence continues across the Gaza Strip. The situation remains dire, with attacks targeting homes and shelters, leading to widespread devastation.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate ceasefire and condemned both Hamas' October 7 attack and Israel's collective punishment of Palestinians, urging peace negotiations to resume.
